Eye-catching red to purple, paper skin covers the firm, pink-tinged white flesh of these onions and their delectable crunch. This onion is definitely at its tastiest when sliced thin and eaten raw--terrific for sandwiches, wraps and robust salads! Try them on the grill, too, with thick sliced wedges placed directly over the heat. Charbroil and roast them to deepen and caramelize the strong flavor. For a delectable dinner, chop with other root veggies, drizzle with olive oil, and broil until browned at the edges. When planted in rich, loamy or sandy well-drained soil in full sunlight, you'll produce large, flattened globes with deep purple skin and a strong flavor. A long day variety, these onions will begin forming bulbs when daylight lasts 14-16 hours. 85 days to maturity from sets.
