Product Description

These delicious spears are bright reddish purple when harvested, bringing a snappy burst of color when used raw in salads or to snack on with your favorite veggie dip. They turn green only when cooked! But don't let the unique color fool you. These asparagus spears are larger, sweeter and tastier than their greener cousins—plus they're great sources of folic acid, potassium, amino acids and dietary fiber. Enjoy in salads, steamed with our Asparagus Steamer, or roasted in the oven with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Whether you plant them in a container or in the garden, they'll emerge from the ground later than green varieties, which protects them from early frost damage. Cut at about 5" tall for the most delicious and tender stalks.

Product Details
  • Botanical Name: Asparagus officinalis "Purple Passion" (male and female plants)
  • Season: Spring
  • Sun/Shade: Full Sun
  • Height: 4 - 5 feet
  • Spacing: For best performance, plant spacing for Purple Passion is 6 - 8 inches apart in the row instead of the usual 12 inch spacing.
  • Zone: 3 - 8 (2 with protection).
  • Spread: 18 inches

  • Pruning: Cut emerging asparagus before the spear exceeds 5 inches. After harvest, asparagus must be completely dormant before mowing. Mow late Winter or early Spring.
