Hinnomaki Red Goosberry

Finnish variety was a favorite in our taste tests. Sweeter than other gooseberries, Hinnomaki Red Gooseberry produces large, ruby-red berries with crisp skins. The berries, with their snappy tang and sweet flesh, are excellent baked into pies or made into jams and preserves.  If planted early enough in the spring, many plants will bear fruits the first year. At maturity, Hinnomaki Red grows 3-5 feet tall and bears 4-5 pounds of fruit per plant. Fruits ripen in July. The plants are mildew resistant and cold hardy. Self-fertile. Zones 3-6.
