Product Description

For soil struggling to retain moisture, Coir Bricks are a substitute for peat that will help your plants get proper air and water flow. Our Coir Brick is made of compacted coir—the fibers from coconut husks, a natural by-product of the coconut industry (unlike peat, which requires disrupting ecosystems to collect!). Coir bricks expand when soaked in water. They help plants better retain nutrients and get essential aeration to the roots. Use it alone or mixed into garden soil. If using coir alone, fertilizer must also be added as coir does not contain nutrients. It's great for compost piles, too, where the carbon-rich coir balances the high nitrogen content so common in compost piles. Worm composters will love it since it makes an ideal media for their worms. It's great for our Grow Tubs®, too, as coir bricks are lightweight and easy to transport and store. See our chart for how many bricks you need to fill each Grow Tub. Each brick takes about 1.5 gallons of water to expand to its full size, which is about 6.5 quarts.
