Product Description

These Encapsulated Compost Worms (red worms) can be used with our Worm Composting System, or added to outdoor composting systems and open piles. They're key to rich, organic matter in your compost! Bacteria inside red worms break down any plant fibers, turning the material they leave behind into a fertile amendment for plants. Worms process their own weight in waste each day, and can tolerate high moisture levels. Plus, studies show pathogens can be reduced in waste materials when worms are present. Encapsulated cocoons can be planted directly into the compost pile, or hatched indoors and transplanted to to your compost system later. Eggs hatch in 32-73 days (depending on temperature and humidity) and mature in about 10 weeks. Increase reproduction by adding crushed eggshells to your compost. A great project for kids and adults both!
