Cutworms and What to Do if they Attack
What are Cutworms?
Cutworms are gray or brown caterpillars that curl up when disturbed. Rarely do they come out during the day -- they hide in lawn thatch or garden soil and emerge at night to feed. They eat all garden vegetables, especially tender seedlings and transplants. Though some eat leaves, the best place to spot cutworm damage is on a stem that has been "sawed off" near the soil surface, with the top part left untouched.
