Cedar-Apple Rust

Cedar-Apple Rust

Symptoms:

Bright orange spots on leaves and fruit. Generally weakens tree. Fungi that cause cedarapple rust complete part of their life cycle on red cedar trees where in spring they cause large, bright orange, sticky lesions at the ends of branches.

Solutions:

Cedar-apple rust can be reduced by removing nearby Eastern red cedar trees. Apply a copper soap fungicide 2 weeks before disease normally appears, or when forecasters predict a long period of wet weather. If disease has already appeared, repeat at 7- to 10-day intervals for as long as needed. Reapply after rain. We recommend Soap- Shield Flowable Liquid Copper Fungicide.
