Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry

This tomato has been a favorite among Pennsylvania Dutch growers since the 1830s! Aunt Molly is extremely productive with its unique, husked fruit. Each tomato is covered with a papery yellow husk. You'll know they're ripe when they drop from the plant to the ground, where you can harvest them by the handful. They taste sweet and just a little tart, similar to citrus or pineapple--and with their high pectin, are perfect for creating batches of jam, preserves, or pie fillings. With the husk pulled back, these tomatoes make a beautiful centerpiece, especially since they hold up for 3-4 weeks in cool, dry conditions. It's one of our favorites from our research garden; we plant them each year just to eat them fresh from the vine! 75-90 days to maturity.
