Asparagus

ASPARAGUS

Is an excellent antioxidant source —containing beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin (all health-promoting carotenoid phytonutrients). These antioxidants protect cells against the oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Of the commonly grown vegetables, only spinach and Swiss chard are higher, but not by much. In addition, it also provides folic acid, a B vitamin necessary for proper cell division, cardiovascular health and DNA synthesis.
