Insect Traps & Lures

How To Get Rid of Garden Bug and Insect Pests

Garden pest control usually involves a multi-pronged approach. One of the most environmentally friendly methods of garden bug control is using traps and lures instead of harmful sprays. Gardens Alive! has worked with organic growers, universities and government labs and conducted research in our own gardens to find the best insect traps and insect lures for home gardeners. These, along with good gardening practices and using other environmentally friendly approaches can help you get rid of unwanted garden bug and insect pests.

Start with an Ounce of Prevention

One way to reduce insect pests in the garden is through good gardening practices. First, select plant varieties that show resistance to pests in your area. Next, keep your plants healthy with regular watering, good soil that is mixed with plenty of organic matter, and natural nutrients. Healthy, non-stressed plants are less susceptible to insect damage. Finally, use row covers, weed barrier mats, beneficial nematodes and traps lures to control garden pests.

How do pests traps and lures help?

Insects traps and pest traps reduce the number of bugs that can damage your plants. Some are quite simple, such as Pot Stickers-Pest Traps. These insect catchers come in attractive, butterfly-shapes and are ideal for catching flying insects that feed on houseplants.

Others pest traps, like the Japanese Beetle Trap, target specific insects. A pheromone lures and traps Japanese beetles. For these selective insect traps and lures to work well, you need to know what pests are damaging your plants. Gardens Alive offers several lures and traps that target specific pests including the Peach Tree Borer Trap, Fruit Friend Fruit Fly Trap, Outdoor Disposable Fly Trap, Ladd Apple Maggot Fly Trap, Apple Pest Trap, Ambush Stink Bug Trap and the Sure-Catch Cucumber Beetle Trap. If ants are a problem, be sure to check out our Bull's Eye Ant Bait Station.
Some traps and lures, like honey select traps, lure beneficial honey bees to the garden.

What other ways can you reduce pest damage?

Gardens Alive! also offers several other environmentally friendly products to control pests including biological controls like beneficial insects, parasites and pathogens, and botanical controls derived from plants. Reintroducing beneficial insects also helps. To find more pest control products, visit https://www.gardensalive.com/category/pest-control
