Product Details

Our exclusive Turf Alive! III grass seed now comes with lawn-strengthening Rhizomes. This seed enhancement allows roots to grow horizontally, helping to quickly fill in bald spots and increase your lawns resiliency against stress and disease. Seed new lawns and bare spots for a thick, deep green lawn!

  • Endophytes provide built-in pest resistance
  • Deep root systems tolerate high traffic and resist drought
  • Maintains color year round with less water and fertilizer than typical grasses
  • Grows in sun or shade

  • Zones: 3 - 7
  • Spacing: Seeding rate: 6 lbs/1000 sq feet.
  • Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade
  • Soil Preference: Well drained, enriched soil.
  • Germination: 7 - 10 days
  • Growth Rate: First mowing within 21 days. Slower growing for reduced mowing requirements. Quickly fills in to create a lush lawn.
  • Comments: Turf Alive! III Brand is a vigorous sprouter, establishes quickly, yet has a slower growing blade than the older turf-type tall fescues. Turf Alive! III Brand also displays a darker green color than our original Turf Alive! Grass Seed.Tests have shown Turf Alive! III Brand seed grows 1 to 2 1/2 inches less than the first turf-type tall fescues (like our original Turf Alive!), over just a two week period!TO OVERSEED: Sow at the rate of one or two lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. (more if existing grass is very thin). For best results, cover with a thin layer of top soil or aerate with a power aerator so that seed will be mixed with soil. Germination will be poor if seed is sown over existing lawn and is left exposed on the soil surface. If left exposed, apply at the rate of six lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.FERTILIZATION: Do not fertilize until after the first mowing. (Tender sprouts can be affected by rapid biological activity.) Cover seed lightly by hand raking. Mulching with a light covering of straw or hay will improve germination and sprouting survival by preventing drying of soil surface.

Best Seed I have Used

This must be the easiest seed to sow. For my lawn, all I need to do is scratch the surface of the soil and add some seed. In a week, there will be baby grass growing. If it is dry, some watering will be required. I have also used this as over seed as well - works great. Will not waste my time with any other seed.

Got tired of wasting money with Scott's seed and wanted to try something new on an area of lawn in my yard that sees a lot of abuse. This lawn seed is amazing and lives up to the product label. Highly recommend this product.

Not Sure About This

I don't see how a slower growing grass blade is advantageous. The whole theory behind growing a healthy lawn is to have a vigorously growing lawn that can out compete weeds. So unless someone is extremely lazy or has a huge lawn, why would you want to mow less frequently?

GREAT but not for the shade

Wonderful grass. Thick, slow growing and VERY little weed intervention. Only thing it does not like shade...LOVES full sun.

Overseeded my lawn with a combination of topsoil/mushroom compost added to my existing lawn that looked very straggley and bare. Transformed my lawn into an oasis of lush green grass. Super impressed with results! Even my landscaper who seeded this for me wanted to know where i got these seeds from.

Not sure it likes hot weather.

Seeded our shady lawn with this in the spring. It came up quickly and looked very promising. It only lasted about a month though and just died away. All of it. It's hot in Texas and I don't know if it didn't like the heat or if it was the shade.

I purchased Turf's Alive III Grass seed over 20 years ago and it is by far the best seed I have planted. It very seldom has dandelions or other weeds. I think I have only fertilized it once. It is awesome. I have been adding it to my other lawn areas. Winters very well.

Bought and seeded grasss in late summer. Seed germinated quickly to a lush green color. Survived winter and came back even more vigorous. Buying more to close off bare spots. Not 100% sure about rhizomes waiting out the season to see if grass self repairs. Otherwise highly recommend

I used this product to over seed my lawn and it has done a beautiful job of proliferating and made it through a Nebraska winter!

Not for Cold Climates

This grass thrived is the spring and summer and was beautiful. However, it turned brown and started dying in the fall. Now, midway through winter, it is clear that I have to reseed my lawn in the spring. I loved the grass when the weather was warm but it is not suited for cold zones. Tough to give a fair rating because I am not sure if I bought the wrong grass for my zone. It would be very helpful for Gardens Alive! to state the ideal zones for the different grass seeds.
