Product Details

Sweeter than sugar with no calories, Stevia is a natural sweetener with a delicious nectar-like flavor. Dried leaves are approximately 10 times sweeter than an equivalent weight of sugar. Grows as a perennial shrub in zones 8-11, or raise it indoors as a decorative houseplant. It flowers with tiny white oval shaped petals. Soft minty green leaves can be used fresh, dried, or powdered.

Excellent Sweet Leaf Plant
Jun 3, 2010  |  By Shannon
I received this plant in my spring shipment and it was larger than I thought it would be to start out with. I planted it for an indoors plant since I live in Wyoming and you never know what the weather will do. So far it is doing great and thriving! I had many green leaves on it and stood about 8 inches tall when received. It is growing and doing great. I love having people try the sweet leaves and their reactions to it.

Died twice!

Not wanting to give up on this plant just yet, Gurney's is replacing it for the 3rd time. The first time it arrived in poor condition and was pretty much already dead. Gurney's replaced it and the second one lived a couple months before dying. Granted, I live in Wyoming, but i keep this plant indoors.....If the 3rd one doesn't live...I give up and will try some other plants!

This plant arrived with only 3 viable leaves on it and the pot dry. Snail mail for sure. Does taste sweet and will be good for cooking if it lives after re-potting.

Interesting and prolific

"I received this little guy in my Spring shipment. It arrived in good shape with a little foliage- about 5"" high. I put it in a self watering container and gave it to my mom in SC to care for while I was away during the Summer. Three months later it was a goliath of a plant. It didn't stay compact at all, but rather sent several long woody stems draping over the sides of the container with lots of foliage on them. I've removed those stems in an attempt to encourage the plant to stay small and bushy. The leaves are certainly sweet- but also a little bitter in this summer heat. I'm guessing they sweeten up more when the temperatures fall off later in the season. Overall I'd say it's a worthwhile investment. Next time I'll wait until Fall to trim back this zealous plant so the leaves will be sweeter. "
