Product Details

Encapsulated Earthworm Cocoons from Gardens Alive!®are convenient and easy to add to your garden soil. You plant them in garden soil just as you would plant ordinary seeds. They're especially useful for people switching from conventional to organic gardening. Better soil quality gives your organic seeds the best start. Each cocoon contains 1-10 eggs, depending on the species, and each egg will produce one earthworm.
Greatest living natural soil boosters
Gardeners covet earthworms in their plots because:

  • their castings boost nitrogen in the soil.
  • they move deep-soil nutrients closer to roots
  • their tunnels loosen soil, improving aeration
  • their activities help soil particles bond, balancing moisture retention and drainage.

Earthworms perform this same magic in compost, speeding the development of nutrient-dense, moisture-dispersing humus.

  • Comments: Earthworms organically improve the quality of your soil by adding nitrogen, moving deep soil nutrients closer to the plant roots, aiding in moisture retention and increasing aeration and drainage. Simply place cocoons in the soil when you plant to ensure a healthy start. Earthworms are also great additions to your compost pile because they speed up the process and give you a better end result.

Lighten clay like never before

After major excavation during a foundation repair, my flower beds were refilled with a large amount of red sticky clay and some sandy soil. Nothing grew. So, I added a large amount of oak leaves and some encapsulated earthworms. Presto! One year later, my soil is lightened and plants are beginning to thrive! The worms composted the leaves and lightened the soils with their castings and tunnels. Buying more this year to add to the vegetable garden!
