Description: White to tan larvae with brown spots and dark head, up to 1" long, overwinter in corn stubble. They like all types of corn, especially sweet corn. First signs are “shotgun” holes in the whorl (the funnel- like new growth). Shortly after, borers move into the stalk or ears and frequently leave “sawdust” around borer holes.

Solutions: To prevent damage to stalks and ears, use spinosad- or Bt-containing products. Thoroughly spray or dust ears and base of leaves every 7-10 days. It is important to keep 100% coverage on leaves and ears to get borers before they tunnel into corn. We recommend Bull’s-Eye™ Bioinsecticide and Green Step Caterpillar Control.
