Gardens Alive! Sponsors Free Community Garden for Local Town
April 20, 2011: Who says that healthy food can’t taste delicious? Gardens Alive! founder Niles Kinerk is tired of the assumption that one must sacrifice great taste, or a great deal of money, for a healthy meal. “I think most people want to eat healthier,” says Kinerk. ”The problem is, often times we think healthy food may not taste as delicious as non-healthy food, or that it’s too expensive. Gardens Alive! is out to prove that anyone can grow inexpensive, great-tasting, healthy food in their own backyard.”

Unfortunately some families, especially those in urban settings, do not have backyards, or any yard for that matter, in which to grow their own healthy foods. Inspired by Michelle Obama’s recent White House Garden initiative to promote organic gardening and educate children about growing and eating healthy food, Gardens Alive! began thinking of ways it could help make a difference on a local, community level.

“We wanted to give local families the opportunity to grow their own inexpensive, healthy, organic garden, so we opened up our own garden to the community,” says Kinerk.

The company’s popular display garden in historic Tipp City, OH, was the perfect place to provide local families with an opportunity to grow their own healthy “backyard” garden. The new initiative is called the Tipp City Community Garden.

To help the gardeners get started, Gardens Alive! is providing each participating family with a 9x12’ gardening plot with free vegetable and flower seeds, transplants, fertilizers, mulch, pest controls, and access to water. The company will also have gardening experts available to offer help or advice with any gardening-related issues.

The Gardens Alive!/Spring Hill Nurseries Garden Center in historic Tipp City, OH, has long been a landmark of the Miami Valley in Southeast Ohio. For over a century, gardeners and tourists from all over the Midwest have been visiting the Display Gardens to see what’s growing. With this new initiative, local families can now be a part of that growth and the growth of the community.

Be sure to also visit www.GardensAlive.com for more information about their award-winning, innovative, all natural gardening products, including organic vegetable seeds, fruit and vegetable plants, and all-natural plant fertilizers, lawn care products and pest control methods.
