Turf Alive!® Brand
Turf Type Tall Fescue
 
Description:
Turf Alive! Brand grass seed is an improved, finer leafed variety of turf type tall fescue. It has a dark green color and exhibits improved persistence even at cutting heights as low as 1 to 1 ˝ inches. Turf Alive! Brand was bred to have good disease resistance to leaf spot (net blotch) and brown patch. It demonstrates excellent heat and drought tolerance, and after it is established, forms a dense and uniform turf that is tough enough to endure heavy wear.
 
Adaptation:
Turf Alive! Brand is a genetically broad based variety that is adapted to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. Overall summer stress performance makes it equally well adapted to the transition zone. In fact 1/3 of the Turf Alive! Brand seed mix has been developed from plant collections made in the middle Atlantic and southeastern areas of the U.S., from the cool season turf grass areas to the north through the transition zone. Turf alive! Brand will tolerate soil ph levels from 4.7 to 8.5 (6.5 to 7.0 are ideal).
 
Use:
    Turf Alive! Brand is recommended for use on home lawns, and high traffic areas such as- sports fields, golf course roughs, parks, playgrounds and other turf areas where a tough turf with outstanding low maintenance characteristics is needed. It has been used successfully on soccer and football fields! It is also recommended for slopes.

Establishment:
  • The recommended seeding times for Turf Alive! Brand is early to mid-spring, late summer and fall.
  • Recommended seeding rate for a new lawn is 6 to 10 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • The recommended seeding rate for over-seeding an existing tall fescue lawn is 1 to 2 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • Under normal growing conditions Turf Alive! Brand should emerge in 8 to 12 days. For best results the seedlings should be kept moist with a thin layer of straw or hay.


Maintenance:
    Turf Alive! has low maintenance characteristics, including a low nitrogen requirement of 3 to 5 lbs. actual nitrogen (n) per year per 1,000 sq. ft. Irrigation requirements are lower than what is needed for bluegrass or ryegrass. We recommend Turf Alive! be mowed to a height of 2 to 3 inches, however, Turf Alive! will tolerate a mowing height as low as 1 inch.

Insect and Disease Resistance:
     Turf Alive! Brand has excellent genetic disease and insect resistance. A symbotic endophytic fungus lives in the grass blades and kills most insects which attack it. Disease becomes a problem only in extreme or unusual situations, and even then, a Turf Alive! lawn will “bounce back” on its’ own.

  • Resist drought.
  • Resist common lawn bugs.
  • Eliminates thatch.
  • Chokes out weeds.
  • Stay out of flower beds.
  • Need less nitrogen ( save money on fertilizers).
  • Provide home owners with an attractive, lush lawn!
